Achtung Cthulhu Organised Play – Mythos and Mayhem

It’s been something we’ve been working on for a while now, and it’s getting close to being released to the world, so we thought to give an outline of the things that we’ve been working on.  Hopefully (he says, all timelines are mutable) by the beginning of July, the first parts of the Modiphius Frontiers program will be emerging for people to start playing.

We’re starting with Achtung Cthulhu, and the working title that we’ve got is Mythos and Mayhem…

Those that have been following the development of this program will know that we’re working towards making something truly unique, something that hasn’t been tried before (because it’s insane), but something that might be a game changer in the field of Organised Play…

A campaign that evolves with input from the groups playing it…

The initial offering from the program will be four adventures, one for every week of the month that follows, each of them with a particular style and a number of ways of approaching them.  None of them will require that you follow a particular path to complete them, and there will something for every style of play.

This hasn’t been easy…

We’re calling it Mythos and Mayhem because we believe that a good scenario has a combination of both, Mythos for those wanting to investigate, Mayhem for those wanting to get the dice and punch Cthulhu out…

Well, you’d need a ladder first, but you get the idea…

The problem with A/C is that as with all Cthulhu, there’s a great possibility to end up nutty or dead, sometimes both, and that doesn’t make for a good campaign. We’ve had to tailor the adventures so that it’s not just a big bad that could wipe things out in the endgame, but a number of possible outcomes, each one with its own bonuses and perils.  What we wanted to do with this program was see where our players wanted to go, there’s a feedback sheet to fill in from your home groups, the results of which are fed back to our writers, who then interpret the data to decide where everyone wants the campaign to go…

There’s a lot of people out there asking the question “Why don’t you just write a campaign and pass it on to the players…? Why make all this work for yourselves?”

Because we believe in involving people…

We believe that our players have something to contribute to the world that we’re building here…

We believe that things can only be better when we listen…

And yes, we’re insane…

But we believe it can be done, it’s not going to be easy for us, but we’ve got the first two months (almost) good to go, and we’re going to be releasing it shortly.

Why two months?

Because it’ll take a month to get all the feedback in from the first set of scenarios, and we need another month to write the third month things, and then follow the feedback from month two to make month four and so on…

All the way to Dragonmeet…

At Dragonmeet, we’re going to do something a bit special, and while we can’t tell you everything about that yet, we will in plenty of time for everyone to get in on it, but for now, we’re nearly done loading the trucks.

Join the Convoy…
